Owen Thomas

Owen Thomas

Owen Thomas spent more than four decades at The Christian Science Monitor, serving in a wide variety of posts on the news and feature sides, both as a writer and editor – though mostly as an editor. Nearly half of Owen’s Monitor career was spent as editor of The Home Forum, either on its own or while also serving as Deputy Editor and then Editor of The Christian Science Monitor Weekly.

Now retired, Owen still has a regular gig teaching a workshop on editing to each new crop of Monitor interns. He has also addressed the wider newsroom and editors of the CS religious publications on this topic. He has a long history of placing essays with The Home Forum, starting when he was a copykid. More recently, he’s been writing articles and testimonies for the Christian Science Sentinel and online.

Owen and his wife, published children's book author Maggie Lewis Thomas, met as copykids. They now live on Boston’s North Shore with their greyhound, Babe – also retired. They have three grown sons, who live between three and 12 time zones away. They have chosen not to take this personally.
