Staff
The staff is what makes Newfound and Owatonna truly unique. Senior staff are experienced Christian
Scientists committed to working with young people in an outdoors environment, free from the trappings of the non-camp world.
Many of them arrange their off-season work around the camp season so that they can return summer after summer!
Counselors arrive at camp two weeks early, first to participate in regional week-long certification clinics in the activities which they will teach. Then, the full staff gathers at camp for a week of Pre-Camp training in all aspects of Camp life.
With the help of focused metaphysical study, inspired talks, group discussions and activities, they discover how to turn to God for practical answers to any challenge-on listening, teaching Sunday School, promoting cabin unity, role-modeling, living by and enforcing the Golden Rule, maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment, teaching and cabin-counseling with seemingly endless enthusiasm and energy. By the time the campers arrive, the staff has become a team of solid commitment: to provide the best possible Newfound or Owatonna experience for every camper. In 1964, Newfound and Owatonna became a not-for-profi t corporation.
Today, an 11-member Board of Trustees oversees the organization. A Management Team of the three Directors and the Facilities Manager are responsible year-round for the daily operation of these camps.
Newfound and Owatonna are held in trust for the campers - children who attend the Christian Science Sunday School throughout the world. The Board of Trustees for Camps Newfound/Owatonna is a dedicated group of men and women, who have demonstrated their deep love for Camp over the years. Many have a strong history with Camp - as former campers, counselors, senior staff, family campers, or current camper parents.
All are seasoned Christian Scientists, who take their role of trustee for Camp straight to God for guidance to meet Camp's daily and ongoing needs. The Board is instrumental in setting Camp policy; fundraising annually for campership, endowment, capital projects, and unrestricted resources; generating and fulfilling a Master Plan for our facilities and our programs; and lending a steady metaphysical hand to support the work of the Directors and their staffs.
