COMMITMENT TO CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

CABIN COUNSELOR REQUIREMENTS

SUMMER 2006 STAFF POLICIES
The policies established for the Newfound/Owatonna staff play an integral part in creating an environment conducive to spiritual growth and healing. We expect every staff member to faithfully abide by these policies. Violation of any of these policies may lead to warning or dismissal.
EMPLOYMENT POLICIES
1. All documents required for employment and the statements made therein become part of any futurepersonnel file and are held confidential. Any employee may examine the content of his/her personnelfile.
2. Salary, position, additional provisions and special employment considerations are indicated on the employment contract. Each contract is negotiated individually and employment particulars may differ. These particulars are considered confidential and should remain so. A signed contract is required before beginning work.
3. All employees are required to produce the necessary current and correct proof of citizenship as required by the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (I-9) on the first day of employment. A copy of your driver’s license or birth certificate will be needed.
4. Employees must complete an Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate (W-4) on the first day of employment.
5. Pay Periods: summer staff is paid bi-weekly.
6. Should an employee’s agreement be terminated for cause, a specific time within which that staffmember must leave camp will be communicated. The dismissed staff member will be given any assistance necessary to leave camp harmoniously. A paycheck will be issued within 72 hours.
7. All counselors over 21 will be asked to take a driving test to drive the camp vans. These counselors need to provide a statement from his/her insurance company of their driving record for insurance purposes.
TIME OFF POLICIES
1. Each counselor will receive 5 days off during the summer season and 6 nights off. Days off begin at8:00 am and end at 11:00 PM. Nights off begin at 5:00 PM and end at 11:00 PM.
2. A sign out sheet will be posted and staff is required to sign out before leaving camp for a day or nightoff. Time of departure, destination, and expected time of return should be noted. Staff must sign in upon return.
3. We understand that there are important events and personal business (weddings, family reunions, job interviews) during the summer that require more than one day off to attend to. A counselor should bring it to the Director’s attention and obtain permission to be excused from their duties for the additional time. If permission is granted a deduction of $25.00 per day will be charged against the staff members’ paycheck for time missed on duty. A counselor may not use future days off in exchange for the additional time. We understand that it is important that counselors have a weekly break from their duties to get refreshed.
PERSONAL POLICIES
1. Behavior inconsistent with the spirit of Christianity, including, but not limited to smoking, drinkingalcoholic beverages, use of drugs, or premarital, extramarital or homosexual sexual activity is notpermitted. Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate dismissal.
2. A phone is available for staff members to use for personal calls and internet access. Calls may be made on days or nights off only. If there is a family emergency or special circumstance the phone may be used with permission from the Assistant Director or the Director.
3. The Directors reserve the right to require a staff member to adhere to dress and appearance policies when health, safety, and community expectations are involved. Pierced body parts (pierced noses, eyebrows, bellybuttons, or more than 2 holes in the ear) , non-traditional hairstyles or hair colors are not permitted. Staff members are required to show up for precamp training meeting this requirement.
4. Shoes must be worn at all times during camp.
5. Staff is expected to keep their living quarters neat and orderly to set an example for campers.
6. Coed visitation on campgrounds is restricted to the counselor cabin, coed program areas, and organized social events. Visitation outside these areas requires permission from the Director.
7. Counselors may have music in the counselor cabin and during time off. Music in cubies or cabins is not permitted.
HEALTH AND WELL BEING POLICES
1. If a counselor has a physical claim and is unable to perform his or her daily duties he/she should report to the Director or Head Counselor. Birches will be made available for study and prayer. Visitors during this time should be kept to a minimum.
VEHICLE POLICIES
1. Transportation to and from Camp is the responsibility of the staff member.
2. Personal vehicles must be registered with the business office and parked in the designated staff parking area. Personal vehicles may be used for official camp business only after written authorization and agreement between the Director or Business Director, and staff member.
3. Campers are prohibited from riding in a personal vehicle without prior authorization from the Director.
4. No staff vehicles are allowed in Newfound or Owatonna groves or at the Counselor Cabin at any time without permission from the Director.
5. Any traffic violations committed by a staff member (on or off duty) dur ing their employment with the camps must be reported to the Director or Head Counselor.
PERSONAL PROPERTY POLICIES
1. No dogs are permitted at Camp without permission from the Director.
2. Any potential hazardous equipment or materials such as firearms, knives (including Swiss army knives), explosives, ammunition, firecrackers etc. are not permitted on the Camp grounds.
3. Staff is required to wear uniforms at all times unless the Director grants permission or the program requires different dress.
4. In keeping with camp life we ask that battery operated equipment (including walkman and personal CD players), electrical appliances, televisions, be left at home.
VISITOR POLICY
1. No staff member or counselor may invite a visitor into camp without the permission of the Director(this includes parents of staff members). With the Directors permission staff members may greet visitors or parents at the Business Office on their days off or nights off. No meals or overnight accommodations are provided unless the Director has granted special permission.
CAMP TRADITION POLICY
1. There are several integral activites integral to the camping season that Camps Newfound/Owatonna hold dear. We expect the following core activities to be enthusiastically supported, such as: inspection, Council Fire, and uniforms to be worn.
OTHER POLICIES
1. In respect to individuals at camp no counselor or staff member may take photographs or videotapes without the permission of the individuals being photographed. No staff member or counselor may take nude pictures whether the person being photographed consents or not.
2. Mail is delivered to the staff after lunch.
3. The camps provide laundry service for all the staff.
4. The Director or Head Counselors will evaluate each staff member at least twice during the summer. Job references based on these evaluations will be made available to any counselor at any time.
