The CITs, generally twelve per camp, balance a daily routine with special activities and trips out of camp tailored to meet the needs of the group.
These young men and women devote time each day to the study of our Pastor (the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures). They rise early to cheer each other on through Red Cross Lifeguard training, and they selflessly contribute an invaluable service to the Camp community by serving in the Dining Room daily.
Towards the end of the summer, each CIT has the opportunity to live in a cabin, assisting the other counselors there, and to help teach one or two activities during the day. A challenging 5-day wilderness experience, a team-building Camp service project, a road trip to Boston and The Mother Church, and occasional field trips into Portland or to nearby mountains/waterfalls add distinguishing highlights to the CIT summer.
These young adults learn to be role models for the younger campers while enjoying a number of privileges as the oldest campers. The CIT program is a transforming experience for these teens. |
