Lots of Special Activities!

If you have checked out our recent photos, you've seen that the campers have been very busy!  They've been on the lake in sailboats, kayakas, and canoes, and they've been skimming along on wakeboards and waterskis.  They've also been playing soccer and ultimate frisbee on the fields.  And, to add to the fun, there have  been several special activities lately to add to the excitement of camp.

For cabin night, in both the Newfound and Owatonna photo pages, you'll see campers sliding down the Owatonna hill on big blocks of ice.  Two cabins--one from Newfound and one from Owatonna--got together on Sunday night to "ice block." The girls and boys rode down the grassy hill, laughing and joking the whole way.  Afterwards the two cabins made a campfire and had s'mores together.  In the Owatonna photos, you'll see pictures of a cabin of boys covered in mud!  That, too, was a cabin night activity; the boys dressed in their camouflage clothes, then played in the fields and woods and mud--much fun was had by all--and much showering and laundry was done soon afterwards!

The Newfound CITs spent part of their day yesterday working in the new camp garden.  The garden has been a great addition to the camps this summer; both CIT programs helped to set up the fence line around it, and groups of campers have worked at times to pull the weeds and harvest the vegetables.  Yesterday, the Newfound CITs worked to weed around the corn stalks--soon we'll have delicious corn to add to the lettuce, squash, and cucumbers that we've already enjoyed from our camp garden.

Two former Newfound CITs have come back to camp for the second part of the summer to lead dance clinics for the girls.  This is a great opportunity for girls interested in dance to have specialized instruction and lots of fun!  Newfound CITs (along with some Oceans) also recently returned from their "Flag Trip."  Photos of girls in the woods in camouflage clothing and of structures in the woods are from this trip.  The girls spent time setting up their camp sites--including kitchens, sleeping areas, flag zones, and jails--and then played a game of modified capture-the-flag.  They had a blast!  The Owatonna boys also run a flag trip--more details and photo will be up soon!
