We woke up to a bit of rain this morning, so the campers had a sleep-in morning. By breakfast time, however, the clouds were already parting and blue sky poked its way through. Now, mid-morning, it's another glorious day at camp!
All the Flag Trips have been completed, and the campers who participated had great experiences--there was much learning, growth, and fun! You'll see photos up of all three Flag Trips: the Newfound trip, the Owatonna Junior Division trip, and the Owatonna Sr. Division trip. The Owatonna Jr. Division Flag Trip is a one day (after Morning Meeting to before dinner) game of capture the flag for the entire Junior Division in the woods behind Alumni Field. They build simple structures, eat a picnic lunch in the fields, and play a fun game of capture the flag. The Owatonna Sr. Flag Trip returned yesterday--the photos that you see of the older campers and CITs in the woods are from their Flag Trip. Like the Newfound Flag Trip and the Owatonna Jr. Division trip, the senior boys also played capture the flag; but on this trip, emphasis is also put on building structures with their lashing skills, cooking over a campfire, and working as a team. There will be many stories to be shared from these experiences!
Meanwhile, a group of Owatonna warriors and chiefs went on a canoeing trip to the Saco River this week. While part of the trip was to enjoy the river, play in the sand dunes, and work on their camping and canoeing skills, they also took it upon themselves to help improve the river for others. You'll see photos of these young men with bags of trash that they picked up from the river banks--some local newspapers even got wind of the story and are excited to run an article about Owatonna's contribution. After the clean-up, the boys continued on their trip, and had a great time! Last night, other campers from both Newfound and Owatonna competed in the Lake Region Sailing Club's Tuesday night regetta series. And, also yesterday, our U16 Newfound girls played a hard-fought soccer game against Camp Pinecliff. We continue to have glorious weather, fun activities, and so much growth happening among all the campers!
