Another Beautiful Day at Camp!

Friday, July 30, 2010

We have awoken to another beautiful day here at camp.  The sun is bright, the sky is blue, and the campers are busy and happy!  Newfound traveled around the lake yesterday to compete in a U14 soccer game; while the girls didn't win, they came back to camp in their cleats and shin guards singing, laughing, and proud of their team's play.  Owatonna, meanwhile, had a U14 street hockey contest yesterday; strong passing, good runs, and excellent sportsmanship highlighted their morning.  Back at camp, Newfound campers spent time improving their boating skills:  waterskiers crossed the wakes, sailors zipped along in the wind, and kayakers worked on their strokes.  The dance classes are having fun working on their routines, and team sports focused on basketball this week.  Up at Owatonna, the arts and crafts studio has been bustling with activity.  Boys of all ages have been soap carving this week:  while sculptures of all sorts have been created, the most popular have been Owatonna camp and team logos.

Today in both arts and crafts studios, soap carving and water color painting will be replaced by "Social Costume Making!"  Tonight's social theme is Peter Pan, so the campers will be constructing Tinkerbelle wands, Captain Hook hook-hands, crocodile costumes, and Peter Pan hats.  Their creativity is amazing--we are always astounded by the fun costumes that the campers and counselors put together for the Friday night socials.  Within the next couple of days, check the website for photos of "Neverland"--the social is always one of the campers' favorite nights of the week!
